THE COIN COLLECTION AT THE DEPARTMENT OF CLASSICS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF COLOGNE
The Institute of Classical Studies at the University of Cologne houses a collection of approximately 11500 ancient coins.
The core stock of about 7000 coins from imperial Egypt is one of the most important collections for this subject area. In addition, there are 500 coins from the Ptolemaic period (323-30 BC) and about 1800 coins from the Greek cities of Asia Minor.
The presentation of the holdings, created within the framework of a DFG project in cooperation with the University and City Library of Cologne, should also make it easy for disciplines participating in numismatics to view the material and evaluate it with regard to complex questions.
